Memorial Day is one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, and Franklin County Auditor’s Weights and Measures inspectors have been inspecting gas pumps across the county to protect consumers from fraud.
Inspectors check gas pumps to ensure they are free from any credit card skimmers as well as distributing accurate amounts of gasoline.
Gas pumps that have passed inspection will have a sticker seal, notifying consumers the Auditor’s office has certified and inspected it.
“Your Auditor’s office plays a crucial role in protecting consumers from fraud, and we will continue to be vigilant so everyone can enjoy their travels and summer activities,” Franklin County Auditor Michael Stinziano said.
Per state law, the Franklin County Auditor’s office regulates Weights and Measures across the county outside the city of Columbus, which has its own Weights and Measures section.
Last year, the Auditor’s office inspected 10,601 gas meters and 1,724 credit card readers within Franklin County.
