Following Storms, Auditor Stinziano Reminds Homeowners They Can File for Value Reduction if Property Is Damaged by a Storm
Following Wednesday’s overnight severe storms, Franklin County Auditor Michael Stinziano reminds homeowners that the Auditor’s office can reduce property values if a property has been damaged by storms.
State law gives county auditors the authority to reduce real estate values for properties that have been damaged or destroyed. A reduction in property value could result in lower real estate taxes for the property until it has been restored to its prior condition or value.
“Central Ohio saw rare winter tornados last night, and I want to let homeowners know that if your property was damaged in one of those storms, the Auditor’s office can help by temporarily reducing a home’s value, possibly reducing taxes,” Auditor Stinziano said.
For more information and the form to apply for a reduction in home value due to storm damage, please visit the Auditor’s office website.
